Strontium ranelate was synthesized from citric acid via decarboxylation, esterification, cyclization, alkylation, hydrolysis and salification. The structure of strontium ranelate was confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and the total yield was 42.6% approx. The synthesis route was simple, low cost and could be used in industry.
