The solvent was evaporated and the residue purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (hexanes/EtOAc gradient). 3-nitro-4-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzonitrile was obtained as an orange-yellow solid (59% yield). LCMS (ES): >;95% pure, m/z 214 [M+l]+.
