General procedure: (E)–aryl–cyanoacrylamides 2 was prepared according to literature procedure.2 General procedure for 2a. The crude reaction mixture was purified through flash column chromatography on silica gel to afford 2a. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): delta (ppm) 8.68 (s, 1H), 7.78-7.74 (m, 1H), 7.70 (dd, J = 7.6, 1.4 Hz, 1H), 7.43 (t, J = 7.6 Hz, 1H), 7.30 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 1H); 13C NMR (CDCl3, 100 MHz): delta (ppm) 167.9, 154.4, 137.8, 131.0, 126.4, 118.8, 115.6.
