The solvent was removed by concentration and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and 5% NaOH. The organic phase was washed with 5% NaOH and brine. Then the organic phase was dried over MgSO4 and dried in vacuum to afford 4-amino-3-chloro-5-fluorobenzonitrile (88%) as a beige solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) delta ppm: 7.41 (t, J=6 Hz, 1H), 7.24 (dd, J=1.8, 10.2 Hz, 1H), 4.66 (s, 2H).
