The solution was allowed to stand overnight and then was neutralized by the addition of 5% aqueous sodium carbonate, precipitating a white crystalline solid which was filtered and dried to give 28.0 g (74% yield) of N-trifluoroacetyl-4-cyano-2,6-dichloroaniline, m.p.: 134-136 C.
