General procedure: Add (0.5 g, 2.8 mmol) aldehyde in a stirred mixture of potassium tertiary-butoxide (0.60 g, 4.23 mmol) and 3, 3,-diethoxypropionitrile(0.63 g, 5.64 mmol) in 5 ml THF. Reflux the reaction mixture for overnight at 60 C, add 20 ml water to the solution and the mixture after cooling. It was extracted with diethyl ether. The organic phase was washed with water, sodium bicarbonate and then brine solution androtary evaporated under vacuum to get reddish oil. Then 20 ml of hydrochloric acid solution (1 M) was added and the solution was refluxedffior 1 h, neutralized and extracted with diethyl ether. The combined organic phase was washed with saturated NaOH solution. The product obtained was puriffied by using hexane/ethyl acetate system by column chromatography.3.2.
